We are only days away from Apple’s media event on September 12th. The company is expected to show off the next generation iPhone with a larger display, thinner design, new dock connector and possibly add LTE to the device.
It is also rumored that Apple will announce a new feature that will allow users to stream media from an iOS device to speakers without the need of a WiFi network. The updated version of AirPlay will presumably setup its own network via Bluetooth 4 between devices to play music.
The new feature is rumored to be called AirPlay Direct, but the name is not definite. Apple could call it AirPlay 2.0 as well.
The new version AirPlay could also be useful for Apple TV. This would simply the setup for business and classroom use. Assuming AirPlay Direct will work with video as well as audio, users will be able to mirror an iOS device or a Mac to an Apple TV directly using Bluetooth.
This could also improve the performance of AirPlay and eliminate any lag between the devices.
