Apple TV SDK to be revealed at WWDC 2012 (Rumor)

Published on June 8, 2012 by

BGR reported today that a “trusted source” told them that Apple has plans to unveil a SDK (Software Development Kit) for Apple TV at the WWDC 2012 event on Monday. If this is true, third-party developers will finally be able to build apps for Apple TV.

BGR also report earlier in the week that Apple would reveal a new operating system for Apple TV with a “control out” API and would demo the new OS at WWDC 2012.

Apple’s developers conference currently has many “To Be Announced” sessions listed, which has Daring Fireball’s John Gruber speculating that the sessions could be for new Apple TV apps.

Third-Party apps has been one of the key features missing for the device and the timing would makes sense if Apple intends on going forward with the rumored Apple TV set.

iOS apps for Apple TV could be what turns Apple’s hobby into something substantial. We will find out on Monday if BGR is correct.
