9to5Mac has found that the latest beta version of Apple TV software has a new Bluetooth menu that allows the device to be paired with Apple’s wireless keyboard. The keyboard can then control Apple TV by using the arrow keys, the return key for play/pause and the escape key will act as the menu key.
Of course, entering text would be a real time saver and the main reason for using a keyboard to control Apple TV. Apple could have more in mind than just using Bluetooth to connect wireless keyboards to Apple TV. This could be used for speakers, third-party keyboards and a new remote from Apple.
Apple provides an iOS Remote app to control Apple TV on iPhones, iPads, and the iPod touch, but touch screen devices are not ideal as a gaming controller. It’s likely that Apple will update the current remote for Apple TV that will connect via Bluetooth.
Currently, the beta version is only available for developers. It’s no known when Apple will release the next version of Apple TV software, but Bluetooth connectivity should be included in the next public release of ATV software.
