During an interview with Brian Williams on NBC’s Rock Center, Tim Cook reveals what may be the strongest indicator to date that Apple is working on a television to be released in the near future.
In the interview Brian Williams asks, “What’s next for Apple?”
“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook told Williams. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”
Tim Cooks comments suggest that the next product category for Apple could be an actual television set or perhaps a significant improvement to the current set-top box that Apple often refers to as a hobby.
Apple has recently released new Macs, iPods, iPhone 5, iPad 4 and a new iPad mini. With all of these new products hitting the market at the end of this year, there is a void in the first half of next year. Apple typically doesn’t go for six months without any product launches or events. This leaves a perfect window for Apple to unveil their plans for the living room.
The current Apple TV set-top box was released in March of this year. Apple could possibly hold a keynote event in March to update Apple TV and launch a new Apple television.
The interview airs tonight on NBC at 9 P.M. Central.
